Mud Run’s Chili Open Benefits First Tee – Greater Akron

AKRON, Ohio (October 24, 2022) – The fifth annual Chili Open presented by Skyway Drive-In – Green took place at Mud Run Golf Course & Driving Range on Saturday, October 22. Beautiful weather drove a record-setting field, with 36 teams (72 golfers) raising over $5,000 for First Tee – Greater Akron.

Facing extremely difficult pin positions, the duo of Bob Fritz and Chuck Harold won the 2-person scramble with a nine-hole score of 30 (-4).  Pete Dutka and Bob Casto finished in a tie for second place with Brian Hicock and Ron Oliver at 3-under par 31.

Each year Mud Run hosts a chili open to benefit the First Tee – Greater Akron in support of their efforts to empower local youth through the game of golf. The nonprofit integrates the game of golf with life skills that help strengthen the character of the participants and empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges.

The trio of skins won on the day were worth $240 each.  Oliver Byers and Jeff Mourton eagled hole 2, while Rick Acree and Chris Smith birdied the difficult par-3 fifth and Dirk Hartman and Tom Park eagled the par-5 sixth.

“We are so thankful for the support that our community continues to show for this event.  This is one of Mud Run’s opportunities to show support for our First Tee chapter and we are excited to see this event continue to grow annually,” said Dirk Hartman, Head Pro/General Manager of Mud Run.
