First Tee – Greater Akron Strengthens Development Team with Hire of Mark Gerberich

AKRON, Ohio (June 15, 2026) – First Tee – Greater Akron is pleased to announce the hiring of Mark Gerberich as its new Development Director, effective Monday, June 29, 2026.

Gerberich brings more than 40 years of business development, fundraising, and partnership-building experience to the role. He has served as President and CEO of the International Soap Box Derby, Commissioner of the Professional Bowlers Tour, and most recently as Director of Business Development at State and Federal Communications.

A longtime friend of the organization, Gerberich is a regular at Mud Run Golf Course and has volunteered with First Tee – Greater Akron in recent years. His familiarity with the organization’s mission and his deep roots in the Greater Akron community made him a natural fit for the position.

“Mark is a connector and a relationship builder, and that is exactly what we need in this role,” said Jeff O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer of First Tee – Greater Akron. “He knows our community, he knows our organization, and he shares our passion for the work we do with young people every day.”

“I am excited to combine my passion for this organization with my purpose for serving the community,” said Gerberich. “First Tee – Greater Akron is doing something special, and I look forward to helping more people discover and support that work.”

Gerberich holds a Master of Arts in Sports Management from the University of Akron and is a PBA Hall of Fame inductee. He also serves on the Akron Roundtable Board.
